Welcome back to the TreeRunner Grand Rapids Adventure Park blog! We are thrilled that you’ve made your way here because it means you are interested in having a Grand Rapids adventure unlike any other!
As has become somewhat of a tradition in our blogs, we’ll lead off today’s post with a (brief) summary of all our aerial adventure park has to offer, after which we’ll talk about a few of the many benefits team-building activities have to offer. Finally, we’ll describe what you can expect from TreeRunner and our team-building activities.
What Is An Aerial Adventure Park?
Let’s start with the basics; an aerial adventure park is fast becoming one of the most popular outdoor activities. Originating in Europe, aerial parks let guests soar among the trees while they navigate obstacle courses that include suspended bridges, rope courses, climbing log ladders, riding zip lines, and balancing a series of challenges.
Aerial adventure parks are both challenging and exhilarating. The great news for folks who are new or timid about getting out among the trees is that TreeRunner Grand Rapids Adventure Park has over 70 exciting obstacles and zip lines with three difficulty levels. There’s plenty to explore, but more importantly, there’s something for everyone — no matter what physical shape you might be in at the moment! Keep in mind we also offer a Junior Aerial Adventure Park for kids ages 4 to 7, which is a great way to introduce this kind of treetop adventuring for your little ones! (Did someone say best birthday party ever?)
Team-Building Activities And Their Benefits
Transition. Let’s talk about team building. Just one opinion here, but it does seem like “team-building activities” has become sort of a buzzword these days, or more accurately a buzzphrase. While some might think of it as trite in 2019, we see first-hand the kind of positive effects team bonding and development provide. When you get people out of their comfort zone, out of their day-to-day autopilot lifestyle, you might actually see a new side of your team!
So whether you are the coach of a local soccer team or the fearless CEO of a Grand Rapids startup, here are the top four benefits of team-building activities, according to TreeRunner.
Team-building activities tend to naturally increase morale, and by extension, motivation. Happy people are productive people, generally speaking. But there is more to motivation-building than simply giving your employees (or other crew) a bit of fresh air on a weekday. For one thing, succeeding in a team-building activity instills people with a sense of confidence — confidence that can be stored away and utilized for use back in the office. And for another thing, hosting a team-building activity demonstrates that the organization wants to invest in their workforce’s well-being. Finally, when employees feel like they can better trust their coworkers, they’ll be more confident to share ideas for improving the operational efficiency of processes and such at work.
In addition to improving morale and increasing motivation, a major benefit of team building is that it increases productivity, when done correctly. In fact, this is often the primary goal of team-building events, which makes sense because companies of all kinds are looking for unique ways to give themselves a competitive edge in their industry. The thought is simple yet effective: as employees are able to work better with one another, they will become more efficient. This leads to increased profitability, which is a good thing for everyone!
To foster creativity, it’s important to get folks out of their comfort zone. Getting your crew outside the monotony of their 9-5 day job mindset is a prerequisite for letting your employees show a little bit more of their personality. At the risk of painting with too broad a brush, we’ve found that people who are cooped up inside all day should literally go outside and use their bodies as much as they can. This lets your crew lighten up a bit, yes, but it also sends them the message that creative problem-solving and thinking outside the box are valuable traits at your company — a message most every employee will like to hear!
Speaking of problem solving, the final benefit we’d like to highlight in today’s blog is perhaps the most practical of them all. team-building activities usually include an element of collaborating to solve a problem, and this is the type of social, critical-thinking skill that proves quite useful int eh workplace. As a manager, you just might be surprised by an employee or two who you never would have guessed has a specific skill set.
Team Building At TreeRunner

- Conflict Management
- Leadership Development
- Trust Building
- Creative Problem Solving
- Time and Resource Management
We offer two distinct team-building Experiences at TreeRunner Grand Rapids Adventure Park
Team Bonding: You’ll have access to a facilitator who will conduct somewhat demanding ground initiatives to promote team spirit, focusing on communication, trust, and cohesion. After the briefing, your group will get harnessed in before they get on up to the treetops to experience the park independent of a facilitator!
Team Development: This is a customized team-building experience. Your facilitator will work closely with your team’s leader(s) to facilitate a ground initiative followed by a debriefing, after which comes a supervised climb up in the trees. The facilitator will then lead a skill-based challenge from the ground. This event is great because everyone gets to be involved — even those who aren’t climbing on that day!
Ultimately, it’s our goal to provide a life-changing experience that helps you grow the bonds necessary to reach your team’s goals.
Why Choose TreeRunner?
We’ve written about team-building exercises in general, and we’ve discussed what our team-building experiences look like to a degree of detail. But beyond that, why should your crew choose TreeRunner Grand Rapids Adventure Park?
It’s not just the responsibility of our facilitators to help our guests grow and learn, but it’s our passion as well. We are intentional and detail-oriented, making sure our facilitators are properly trained with the correct tools at their disposal to help fulfill complicated, customized group needs.
We believe that because no two groups are the same, no two groups should have the same, cookie-cutter experience. Our team-building activities will never be the same — even if you bring the same group of people to the park twice over! Each experience will be unique as the dynamics of your group (and our activities) evolve over time.
Download the Team-Building Flyer here, and, if you are ready, fill out the form to give us a bit of information on your group! You’ll describe your group for us, explain how intense you’d like the event to be, and inform us about how much team building vs. climbing you’d prefer your activities to include. Additionally, you can choose three desired learning outcomes from the following list:
- Team Building (general)
- Communication Improvement
- Leadership Development
- Strategic Planning and/or Change Management
